Truth is better

I have learned that truth / knowledge / doctrines are the best foundation for thoughts and actions. Too many opportunities are lost because of fear / pride / false conceptions.

Here are some truths

  1. There is sufficient technology to end disease.
  2. There is sufficient resource to end hunger.
  3. There is no such thing as poverty.
  4. People speed on their way to the temple.
We don't accomplish 1 through 3 because of 4.

When we solve #4, we will solve #1 - #3.

More to come!

We totally speed to the temple, but even as much of a hypocrite that I would be to ever point the finger at someone else...don't forget, I also speed to the temple. Do you think that it would be hard to bear testimony of the importance of the law of tithing or the law of chastity if you can't get out of bed on time? These are questions we've been tossing around at our house the past few weeks.

D&C 130:20 - 21

One of the traps a lot of members of the church fall into is thinking that you can increase blessings by making up rules for yourself.

The Rule/Blessing correlation has already been established. Some members of the church believe that if they hold themselves to a higher standard (their own standard, not the Lord's) they will receive greater blessings for it. For instance, some members of the church think that by adding food items to abstain from they can increase blessings related to the Word of Wisdom.

The Lord makes it clear what is expected of us. If you need a reminder, have a look at the temple recommend questions. Adding to the list of expectations just causes members of the church to have a feeling of eternal "not enoughness".

While the temple recommend questions could certainly be interpreted to require us to stay within the speed limit, it is doubtful to me that the eternal law of speeding predicates the blessing of world healthfulness. We've learned from experience that the laws of nature (and the Lord) carry more logic than that. I would think the blessings of driving at a reasonable speed deal more with higher reaction time and mitigated consequences when you're unfortunate enough to have an accident.
