Loved or Liked?

I know my wife loves me. I wonder if she likes me? I wonder if she likes me today? If I had the choice to be "loved" or to be "liked" I wonder what I would choose? What would I prefer to hear:
A. I love you but I don't like you.
B. I like you but I don't love you.

What would you want? Take the survey.

Quite the dichotomy! I think like is a very temporary and usually reparable status. Love is much deeper and sometimes irreparable. Love is the long-term goal, like is the daily battle!

Timmy, very nice. "Like is the daily battle." That could be a poster on my wall.

I think we need more words for love. Some people are afraid to use it because it implies commitment or some sort of unforgivable confession. Some people sling it around like its ranch dressing. We need more words like "like-like." When you "like-like" someone you think of them romantically but aren't convinced it'll last. It's a little 3rd grade but I think it demonstrates my point. Why isn't there a word to distinguish between the love I have for my husband and the love I have for my children or my parents or my best friends? Some word that could convey love/like or love/gratitude or love/admire.

It's time to coin a word Dad. Something to replace Love-Like! ^^

I would rather be loved.
As Victor Hugo said...
The supreme happiness of life is the conviction that we are loved - loved for ourselves, or rather, loved in spite of ourselves.

That is a no brainer for me. I would want to be liked. I love that when someone loves you, they HAVE to love you a lot of the time. Like after a good fight, I can say, "Do you love me?" knowing full well that he HAS to say, "yes." However, liking someone has no obligation, it is voluntary and based on sincere liking of who I am. Chris and I definitely started at like, but we really need the love a lot! I like that quote by Victor Hugo, but I think the love we all yearn for is the love that stems from knowing our divine roots, and that Heavenly Father loves us. Once we know that...I prefer to be liked for who I am rather than loved in spite of who I am! It is an interesting dichotomy, thanks for getting my mind thinking on that.

I would like to be liked. That says something about me. If someone loves me, that says something about them. I think if someone likes me enough, eventualy they will love me. That seems to address Amanda's dilema.
